We went to Soll in January 2012. Travelling independently for a four day break, we chose Soll because it's the nearest major ski area to Munich airport (1.5 hours by car). At 700 meters above sea level, we were concerned about snow cover, but needn't have worried as there was ample coverage (perhaps we were blessed with skiing during one of the best alpine seasons on record!) Despite our good luck and the abundance of snow cannons, I can't help thinking that the low altitude may result in poor coverage on occasions.
One of the best aspects of Soll is that it forms part of the large, interconnected 'Skiwelt' area. As a result, a vast amount of choice is presented upon browsing the piste map. - a great boon for more experienced skiers! Further more, it is possible to buy a lift pass which allows access not only to Skiwelt, but to other nearby ski areas, including Kitzbuhel.
After some research, I realised that, using this pass, and including a short bus ride, it may actually be possible to ski from Soll to Kitzbuhel and back in one day.
Getting the first lift of the day, and despite one navigation mishap, we managed a 30 minute stop in Kitzbuhel (just enough time to wolf down some lunch!) before heading back to Soll. I'd recommend this trip for more experienced skiers, as a real sense of achievement was felt upon returning to base. In fact, it is strange to realise how close skiwelt is to the kitzbuhel area without being physically connected by a lift. If this were to happen Austria would have an area large enough to rival the Three valleys!
The apres ski in Soll is a lively as one could wish for. The Moonlight bar at the bottom of the home run is full of beer fuelled rowdiness, as is the Hexen bar near to the gondola station. After 8pm, the night-life in Soll seemed rather more sedate, which, perhaps is no bad thing after the afternoon excess!
Overall, I would recommend Soll to skiers of all abilities. I might however, say that Soll, perhaps is not the best choice for boarders as there are a number of flattish sections scattered throughout.
With the availability of cheap flights to Munich airport, Soll is great choice for a ski holiday. I hope to be back one day.

A group of us travelled to Soll in Feb 2014 & quite frankly all of us found it a bit boring. The temperature was quite high which meant that because Soll is quite a low resort, the lower slopes were either slush or no snow at all. On one day we attempted the run down into Hopfgarten and found as we came over the crest of a hill we were straight into a muddy field! All this meant that the rest of the higher areas were really busy, which meant dodging ski schools on the way down, and long lift queues to get back up.
The town itself is fairly pleasant though. There is a good bar on the way back into town as you walk back from the lift station just on the roundabout which serves snacks & plays good music, and a really good après pub in the town centre called the Whisky Muhle which gets really lively til late on. The restaurant above the Whisky Muhle is also very good, although a bit expensive.
My overall advice for Soll would be to book late and ensure that they have adequate snow cover first, it has the potential to be quite a good resort, the conditions unfortunately let us down.

Does not dissapoint. The Austrians have done a lot of work here to compete with areas like the 3 Valleys. Whilst it lacks the height of the French resorts it makes up for with a good variation of runs. Lots of tree runs to make it challenging. It has a huge area to explore from Going all the way to Westendorf. It also boasts some great on piste, off piste bars. Even if you only want to stop for a quick mid-day beer you'll be tapping your toe to some cheesey Austrian tunes in one of a selection of bars where the Jager comes on tap! At times the piste map can be complicated because of the lay out of the mountain especially getting back into Soll. Once your back in Soll though and the lifts are closed the Apre-Ski is excellent. Small enough so you cannot miss the best bars! Everyone here is ready to party after a day on the slopes and the atmosphere is laid back as well as lively. No one behaving badly, just a good old fashioned resort. It is also worth noting the facilties are top class. From the lift system to the website, everything has been made easy to use. Fantastic resort.
